Spiritual breakthroughs are not the product of random chance but deliberate preparation. When we get it this truth will change the way we approach faith. However, it is not automatic and comes as a product of spiritual maturity. With each insight we gain an increased sense that the Kingdom of God is not a pointless labyrinth of impossible mysteries, but a calculated system stemming from a wise and wonderful Father. Leave the world of chance!
God made you insensitive when He made you sensitive!
For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? – 1 Corinthians 4:7
Everything we have we receive. From our spiritual gifts to physical attributes, there is nothing that is not given. It also includes the fact that we are not equally sensitive to the same things. Meaning, you might be more sensitive to light or cold, while others are less sensitive. Yet we are neither superior or inferior… just different. The important thing to recognize is this diversity is God ordained. So celebrate both yourselves and others, since when God made you sensitive He also withheld sensitivity.Continue Reading
Behind the Skeptic is a Disease
Do not be intimidated by the skeptic, even though social media seems to favour cynics. Though abundant, even amongst Christians, their negativity is a losing cause. Still, the presence of this kind of skepticism is surprising. One cannot post a promise without some naysayer making a ‘courageous’ stand in defence of unbelief. They appear oblivious to the obvious fact that skepticism is not compatible with love! Love will always err on the side of optimism rather than cynicism.
Love is the source of trust and respect
One of the most important characteristics of love is the ability to believe others as better than ourselves (Phi 2:3). If we can do this, we may find it is most significant element to creating new and lasting relationships. But what does that mean? How can we consider another better if we clearly have superior skills or character? Is the Bible suggesting dishonesty? No, it is a call to an open heart and a willingness to suspend suspicion. We must start by giving others the courtesy of a clean slate.Continue Reading
Time to shift Church Doctrine?
It’s time that we change our ideas around Church Doctrine. Like many distortions we have allowed over time, it has become something God never intended it to be. Does this mean changing our essential beliefs? No, rather we need to update our definition of doctrine. What ought to be exciting and pulsating with life, has become drab and boring. It is time we shift Church Doctrine.Continue Reading
Flattery is One Thing I Really Hate…
If there is one thing I really hate it is a false flattering tongue–including in myself. Flattery is worthy of hate as it is a particular nasty evil. Strangely enough, though the Bible says much about this, flattering speech is often very prevalent in ministry circles. It is a frequent tool for bolstering one’s political status. While encouragement and authentic appreciation are great things, essential things even, they can easily become tools of subversion. It is the work and aim of the Holy Spirit to purify this stream as He hates it too!Continue Reading
Don’t miss the Kingdom because of frustration with Church!
The Church and the Kingdom of God are different but they are not separate. A growing trend has emerged favouring the ‘Kingdom’ while disparaging the local church; which is like saying we like Jesus but not the Father. This is a profound deception damaging the wellspring of what we propose to support. It suggests the churches are inconsequential! This perspective ignores the significant truth that the ‘faith community’ is the wellspring of Kingdom Life for the believer.Continue Reading
Worship experiences… having or giving them?
Givers and Receivers
Worship, like gift giving, involves a giver and a receiver, which are you? We would not be out of line in saying it should focus on God! If it needs to be meaningful, it should be meaningful to Him first. We need to set aside our own particular preferences and discover what He wants. After all, the objective of worship is to give God the acknowledgment He deserves. The measure therefore, of a great worship service, is not what experience comes to me, but the one I create for Him.Continue Reading
The Secret of Christianity shows it is not a Religion!
The Secret of Christianity is that it is not a religion. At least it is not in terms of we think of as religion. It is a spiritual system governed by a Supreme Being! If it resembles a religion to us, that is only because imperfect men have tried to express what is inconceivable. For this I apologize. The Secret of Christianity is that it is not defined by the morals associated with it. Rather, it creates them within us! It organically supplies what is routinely demanded by religion.Continue Reading
Is there cultic vain repetition in Church worship? Jesus warned us against it. There certainly seems to be a lot of repetition in today’s music, is this what Jesus meant? If there is ‘vain repetition’ we will never know it unless we define it. So the first question to answer is ‘what is it?’.
