If God is humbling you… rejoice!
God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. If God is humbling you it’s because He aims to give you grace. It has nothing to do with rejection or exclusion. It is quite the opposite rather as His plan for you is for good. In the end it has everything to do with the amount He can use you.
Recently, while taking a London tour, we drove pass a massive construction site. The tour guide commented on the depth of the foundation saying, ‘That’s a big hole, that is going to be a big building’. He immediately connected how the depth of the hole would reflect the height of the building–the deeper the dig the higher the building. It is the same when God builds. However we do not always feel the promise in God’s ‘humbling excavation’. It often feels like we are being overlooked or potentially dismissed. Yet this is the maxim by which He prepares His servants–the deeper He can dig the higher He can build.
But why do we need to be humbled other than the fact that God prefers the humble? In short the answer is to avoid confusion about who is God and who is not.
You see while God is not lacking in power He is always looking for good men and women to clothe with it. The problem is we grow attached to that power and over time tend to take credit for it. After God uses us the distinction between the man and the power can grow dim. The humble are not easily confused though. They have had the depths of their being excavated by the hand of God, and know what and who they were aside from God.
So if God is digging deep into your humanity be thankful. Rejoice that He deems you worthy for this kind of preparation. Only He knows what He would like to do. Rather let’s simply pray and believe for the grace to be tools in His hand for His glory.
