Climate Change – The most worthy environmental project Ever
It’s true! A generation is buying into saving the earth. Good for us! But our climate change projects fall short of the real goal. Like most who see and know in part, there is a dangerous half-measure threatening to high-jack our true destiny. That half-measure is a lie–a spiritual placebo distracting us from our actual purpose. Even so, there is a generation God will use to save the earth.
It is natural for a generation to look for a worthy cause into which we can pour our lives. This present generation is no different. We have been made by God to care and to want to do something that matters. But like so many young idealists we lunge for the first cause. We are ready to give ourselves to something a few degrees removed from our true destination.
It would take too long to outline the history of this strategy, except to say it is always fool’s gold that pulls us away–a clever imitation. In this case, it is the lie about what endangers the earth. The polluting commodity we need to deal with, is not CO2 gases, but sin!
The Bible points to this ‘bait-and-switch’ tactic of the Kingdom of Darkness. In order to keep us from experiencing God, we are offered what looks similar. Instead of God we are given a version of Him called a form of godliness(2 Timothy 3:5). Satan cannot erase worship or faith and so floods the world with counterfeits. He offers the choice of a thousand religions, all of which have some appearance of good.
Why is this effective? It works because we are too intent on good to allow overt evil to deceive us. Yet while this thing promises all the reward of destiny, it delivers none. Tragically many will spend the best years of their lives on the least permanent outcomes. Still, God has reserved a generation who will not be deceived.
Here is the really good news! Climate change as a cause is coming closer and closer to the real thing. That is, it is closer to our destiny of ‘saving the whole world’. At some level Satan knows the gig is up and is having to offer something closer to the authentic. But it still falls short. The warm feeling that comes with saving a tree is far less important than saving a soul. Yet, it points to the fact that, like Jesus, we have all been called to be part of ‘Saving the World!’ Fix the real problem and deal with the sin in man!
